She supports herself by working at the rectory and the local manor house as well as managing her garden, sheep and chickens. She was married to a miner who was killed by a explosion in his mine. The year is 1665 and Anna Frith is a widow, less than twenty years old with two young sons. It is the first book by Geraldine Brooks that I have read, so I will be looking for more of hers in the future. I checked it out on CD to listen on my commute, but had to scramble to find the book because I couldn’t wait over the weekend to find out what happened. In Dee Hendersons 'Missing', a Wyoming sheriff is called to Chicago when his elderly mother goes missing. Even though you know it will happen, their honesty with God is moving. However, the scenes where the individual comes to faith are exceptional. A bad example for my girls who I'm training to never date/get emotionally involved with a non-believer, since it usually doesn't have a happy ending and God commands us not to. It's predictable in that the object of their affection will become a Christian and they will get together. While the character does mention several times that the relationship can go no farther, they don't take steps to insure that it doesn't. You are drawn in and have trouble putting it down you definitely want to read the whole series and they get better!
